Astonishing Colorado and One Remarkably Cute Dog. See What Happens When We Add Louie! TWT, January 7, 2025March 5, 2025 In Colorado Springs, we ended an era. So, it seemed only fitting that we start a new era in Colorado as well. Shortly before we left for our trip to Gunnison, Colorado, we had the opportunity to add Louie to our family. We’ve waited quite a while to introduce him to all of you, but the time is right! So…. Here’s Louie! All About Louie!Louie came to us as “Cash” or “Buddy”. He was rescued by the Mid-America Boston Terrier Rescue early last year. Since then, he floated from one home to another. Meanwhile, we were thinking about adding a third Boston to our family. He popped up on our Facebook feed in the middle of June, and looked like a perfect fit for us. Only problem was he was in Missouri at the time. There was no way we could fit a trip to Missouri into our schedule with our first international trip coming up quickly. That was on a Friday night. By Monday, he was in Denver, and by the next Saturday, he was ours!We wanted to give Louie time to get settled into our family, so we waited for a while to introduce him. He has gone through a lot of changes in a short amount of time! When he came to us, his name was either “Cash” or “Buddy”, but he didn’t come when called by either of those names. So, we made a list of names and then sat in the yard and called him by each one. When we called “Louie” he turned and looked at us, and then the second time we called, he came. So, Louie it was.Louie was also pretty scared (particularly of men) when we met him. So, we wanted to take some time and help him settle in and realize big, tall guys aren’t quite as scary as he thought! Being the smart little guy that he is, he has figured that one out and is working on learning “Sit”, “Stay”, and “Come”. Hopefully we will have these figured out by our first trip in March of 2025!Enough About Louie, What about the Trip? This trip was mostly so we could go and take pictures of the wildflowers in Crested Butte, CO. My sister joined us on this trip, so we actually had seven (not a typo) pups with us! It was lot of fun to drive and hike through fields of wildflowers with the dogs. We ended up making that part of the trip an actual vacation, so we didn’t take much footage. I took lots of pictures, though!Wildflowers blooming for miles near Crested Butte, Colorado.Louie stops to smell the flowers during his first hike near Crested Butte, CO.Black Canyon of the GunnisonIn addition to seeing the wildflowers in bloom, neither my sister nor Danny had ever seen the Black Canyon of the Gunnison. This is one of my favorite places to visit, so I didn’t want them to miss it! The sheer black cliffs and beautiful sunsets were quite worth it, even when road construction caused us to have to take a rather long detour back to the campground. We all enjoyed seeing the sun set on the canyon walls. It is truly a beautiful place and one we all highly recommend to anyone who hasn’t been there. Just try to go on a year when they aren’t rebuilding the road between Gunnison and the park entrance!Sunset over the Black Canyon of the Gunnison in ColoradoNext up…We hope you enjoyed meeting Louie and we look forward to sharing him with you as we move on to other adventures.
